"Dear Exhausted Mom,

I hear in your words the voices of many mothers asking the same question!  In your chaotic schedules you are often tempted to put exercise last, not because you want to but because you never get to it.  I congratulate you for your intent to exercise, and I'd like to offer the following tips to help you get your exercise done.

1)  Make an appointment time each day for your exercise.

You wouldn't miss a scheduled doctor's appointment would you?  Exercise and staying healthy is like your own doctor's appointment each day!  Schedule a time during your day for it - write it down like you do all your other appointments, and put a nice big check mark through it once completed!

2)  Find a gym which offers child care.

Many gyms offer kid's clubs during the day at little or no cost to members.  This is a great way to focus on your workout without the children, household, phones, or "to do" list as a distraction!

3)  Power walk with a stroller.

Are your children very young?  How about a daily power walk while pushing a stroller?  Stop along the way at a park and throw in some ab or arm exercises and you'll find that your outdoor workout will rejuvenate, refresh, and renew your energy!

4)  Maintain proper nutrition.

Eating 5 - 6 small meals a day will boost your metabolism and keep your energy up.  By doing this you will avoid that mid-afternoon sluggish feeling.  Choose a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fat with every meal.  Drink plenty of water too!

5)  Purchase a resistance band.

Stretch bands can be found at any sports store, are inexpensive, and can be easily carried with you.  Find one with medium resistance - many come with exercises which can be done anywhere - create a mini workout right in your own home while your children are napping!

6)  Workout with a friend, take a daily aerobic class, or hire a personal fitness coach.

Doing any of the above will help you get the exercise done and keep you accountable and consistent.  Consistency is the key to fitness success!

Your children are important, but so is a healthy, energized, and refreshed mom!  As you make your children a priority, do the same with your health.  The healthier you are, the better mother you will be, and staying fit now will add years to your heart, muscles, and bones so that someday you can play with your grandchildren!"
